Most Common Allergy Attacks – Fish Allergy

Description: Besides the milk and egg allergies, it is perhaps fish allergy that is the most common among people and especially the children.  Both sweet water fish and sea fish can cause such allergies. In fact there are a lot common ingredients in fish and shellfish allergies.

Fish is perhaps the most common food apart from egg and meat that is widely used across the globe by people of all types of non-vegetarian communities.  Pollock, cod, tuna, snapper eel, tilapia, and salmon and multiple other types of popular fish species are used as food by people.  However these are also the ones that trigger allergic symptoms in the consumers.  Prawn and crabs are also major sources of such allergies.  However these last two do not come strictly in fish categories.

One most unique and common features in both fish and shellfish allergies is that while most other allergic tendencies start in the childhood; they attack the adult people more. That means the chances of outgrowing the food allergies caused by fish or shell fish is much less in comparison to egg or milk where 80% of the child can outgrow the allergies with the advancement in age. Additional bad news for you is that the fish allergies are quite severe most of the times and are also difficult to address in comparison.

Fish allergies could result in severe asthma for the adult people.  Especially those who have respiratory problems can immediately suffer intensely due to the fish allergic problems. Several types of complexities including the oral allergy syndrome, and anaphylaxis can occur as result of fish allergies.  In case of the oral allergy syndrome there is itching in your mouth or tingles when you eat fish that acts as the allergen.  On the other hand anaphylaxis is one of the severest of the fish allergy affects that causes very severe systemic reactions. It will release quite a large amount of histamine and in result the tissues in the body will swell up.  The after affects of such swelling often are threat to breathing, cardiac arrests, as well as gastronomical symptoms. That is why it is extremely essential carrying medications prescribed by the treating physician at all times whether you are on the move or static somewhere.

High allergic cross reactivity occurs with most types of fish products.  It means that the people with the allergies are likely to develop allergies in others.  The reason is that there is one protein component called parvalbumin in fish that cause al these problems. People who suffer from fish allergies are advised to avoid all types of fish by their treating physicians.  Since the harmful protein is present in all types of fish, consumption of most of them could trigger such allergic cross reactivity. The harmful affects are relative.  While Tuna and Mackerel fishes are found to be less harmful, some other fishes are found to create more allergic tendencies.

If you are fond of fish, it would be better to have additional allergy test conducted so that you do not end up with some unwarranted results at the end of it.
