Tips for a Healthy Diet and Better Nutrition

lntroduction  

Everyone aspire to be healthy. But when life goes smoothly no one cares about it and realizes it only when struck by some unforeseen events. As the saying goes ‘Prevention is better than cure’ one should have a healthy and nutritious diet for sound health. People are under the false impression that healthy eating involves diet restrictions, avoiding the food one loves, limited meals and becoming thin.

Healthy diet involves a systematic diet plan which works for a person, allowing him / her to take food that improves health and avoiding food that causes illness. This makes a person feel great, happy and healthy.

 Eating strategies

 The following strategies helps one to choose and expand the list of delicious foods that improves a person’s health without compromising on the quality.

Consume variety of foods like fruits, vegetables and whole grains, which normally not included in daily menu. 

Consume fresh grains, legumes, vegetables and fruits aplenty, which are rich in carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, low fat content and no cholesterol. 

Consume 2000 calories /day depending on individual’s age, height, weight, sex, physical activity. A balance should be maintained calories gained and calories used. One shouldn’t eat excessively. 

Drinking plenty of water forms essential part of healthy diet. Water cleanses kidney, bladder, from toxins and waste products. Most of the Americans life is dehydrated.

Over eating should be avoided. It is a common phenomenon with increase in restaurants. 

Refined grain products and products containing sugar and salt should be limited.

One in a while people can have sweets and fried foods but it should not be the order  

Smart eating 

Whatever one does, if it is done in a smart way, then results follows without much labor. This applies to eating also. So even if you are systematic and have a diet plan, if you don’t know how to eat, you may be at loss. So one should practice and implement ‘smart eating’. 

It’s not enough if you know what to eat. Smart Eating involves knowing how to eat.

The following steps comprises smart eating. 

A person should listen to his body. One should know whether he’s hungry or thirsty.

One should stop before his stomach is full. Brain tells that but normally one doesn’t listen to its signals. If one listen to his brain, he’ll satisfy only his hunger rather than going into ‘food coma’  

Eating early and often helps to keep metabolism going and helps in preventing ‘snack attacks’. Starting the day with breakfast and eating small and healthy meals during the day should be the order of the day. One should do away with standard three large meals a day.

Chew and savor your food enjoying every bite of the meals rather than rushing through the meals. 

Avoiding stress during eating prevents lot of health disorders like heartburn and colitis. 

Eating while driving, watching TV, working or arguing should be avoided. 

Create a congenial atmosphere during meals, like having candlelight's, melodious

music.

Healthy diet and smart eating improves the physical being of a person and makes him feel great and happy and coupling it with exercise and physical activity makes this systematic eating plan provide better results bringing complete turn around in life.
